Carterhatch School Parliament
We pride ourselves on pupils having a voice through our School Parliament. Pupils feel listened to, valued, respected and empowered.
Our Members of Parliament play an essential part in being role models for demonstrating our three core values of Respect, Responsibility and Resilience. Pupils understand their role and responsibilities aligned to British values.
Parliament members are responsible for collecting the views and issues from their peers and sharing these with regularly with the Headteacher. They also help lead in-school events, such as the summer talent show, family assemblies and weekly success assemblies.
Our Parliament provides a forum where pupils:
- can influence decision making and school improvement
- represent their peers’ views whilst at the same time recognising our school's commitment to supporting democracy and individual liberty
- learn how to be responsible citizens in our community
Every year all classes vote for their Members of Parliament. Those who are elected have the opportunity to meet their local MP and visit the Houses of Parliament. During the visit, pupils will learn about how our laws are made through an interactive workshop and receive a tour including visiting the House of Commons and the House of Lords.
